Artist Statement
Sky, water and trees act as recurring elements in my paintings which often include bold colour, contrasts in light, rhythmic patterns, textures or the interplay of shapes. I work in oils, acrylics and watercolour as the subject dictates, and in recent years have been incorporating the art of sumi-e, an ancient form of Japanese painting with ink, into my practice.
Artist Bio
Debbie Near, a native of southern Ontario, has been painting for over 20 years. She has a BA in Fine Arts from WLU and after a long career in engineering, she has recently retired to Port Dover.
