Across Norfolk County, creativity takes many forms. It lives in studios, workshops, spare rooms, barns, and quiet corners where ideas become finessed artworks. The annual Norfolk Studio Tour offers an invitation to step into these spaces, meet the artists, and discover the breadth of creative practice within our community.
Presence of Place, the Lynnwood Arts Norfolk Studio Tour Exhibition extends this experience beyond the tour weekend, offering visitors a glimpse into the individual creative practices of each of the 26 participating artists. Rather than presenting a singular vision of Norfolk County, the exhibition reveals its many perspectives; 52 artworks are spread across three gallery spaces, presenting work within the mediums of painting, printmaking, collage, glasswork, metalwork, woodwork, mixed media, and sculpture. Each artist has personally selected works that speaks to their unique approach, interests, skills, and ways of seeing.
As you move through the exhibition spaces, you may notice recurring connections to place: familiar landscapes, local wildlife, colours drawn from the surrounding environment, and imagery shaped by the distinctive character of Norfolk County. Together, these works reveal what it means to create here. There is a vibrance and richness that emerges from a locale that offers space, tranquil time, inspiration, and energy for creative endeavors. Together, their practices highlight the depth and diversity of contemporary artistic activity happening close to home.
This exhibition simultaneously marks a significant moment in Lynnwood Arts’ history: it is the final exhibition presented in our current building before the Centre moves to a new location. In many ways, the exhibition reflects what has always made Lynnwood Arts special - a place where artists and community come together, where local creativity is celebrated, and where new connections are made.
